Tata Infotech ties up with Deakin
In a initiative to add more value to its education Tata Infotech Education (TIE), has entered into a collaboration with Deakin University (DU), Australia. According to Rahul Thapan, head-education services, Tata Infotech, ‘‘The collaboration with the Deakin University is a step towards our policy of encouraging Academia-Corporates-TIE linkages. The tie-up is primarily in two areas.
First is in academic credit transfer and secondly, in exchange programmes between the two institutes.’’
Under this tie-up, Indian students pursuing the G-Tech programme offered by TIE can opt for a lateral entry in the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Information Technology (IT) offered by the DU.
The students, with a graduation degree, after completing G Tech course will gain a credit transfer of four units for the Masters in IT (M IT) programme of the university, saving six months of studies. Students who undertake G Tech after class 12, will gain entry into the fourth semester of the Bachelors in Computing programme of Deakin, thus saving one-and-a-half years, out of the three year programme.
Calling the partnership as an ‘‘increasing diversity of opportunities’’, the pro vice-chancellor and vice-president of DU, Eric Meadows said: ‘‘The lateral entry system will not merely save considerable amount of money spend in living and studying abroad, but undergoing part of the studies here will moreover, prepare students for the academic pursuits abroad.’’
Apart from the successful completion of the G Tech programme a student has to fulfil certain requirements of the DU, including the IELTS score of six for undergraduate students and 6.5 for graduate students, to seek admission in DU programmes.
